Instructional Plan
Start the class by talking to the students about the benefits of being able to move text in a document. Then demonstrate how to select a line of text:
Once the text is selected, they can move it by dragging and dropping it. Note: I tried something new this year. I only told the students to select line of text by moving the cursor to the left of the line of text they wanted to select and it worked out a lot better. The wanding method is less accurate. Sometimes they select to many characters and sometimes not enough. This is especially true with respect to getting the "enter" at the endo of the line. Moving the cursor to the left of the line seemed much more reliable and the students were more successful and less frustrated (which is always a good thing). If they have trouble selecting a line of text using this method, I ask them if I can put my hand on theirs. I ask them to relax. Then I move the mouse to the left of the line, I click to select the line, and drag and drop the text to where I want it. This lets them know how it feels. They usually get the hang of it after a couple of demonstrations. I also remind them they can "undo" if they mess up. It is also good to remind them not to type any letters or words. They should be able to unscramble the Star Spangled Banner without typing anything. |
Assessment
Check to see if students are able to unscramble the Star Spangled Banner properly.
