There are four categories of anteaters, the giant anteater, silky anteater, and northern and southern tamandua. The giant anteater is the largest of the four. It can grow to be 5 to 7 feet long and weight 40 to 100 pounds. They are found in the rainforests of southern Belize and northern Argentina.
The giant anteater does not see very well, but has a great sense of smell which it uses to root out termites and ants. It's long nose is really an elongated jaw with a nose on the end like a dog's. Giant anteaters have a 2 foot long tongue and sticky saliva that helps them eat. They can eat up to 30,000 ants a day! Want to Learn More?
