Overview
The students will use their vocabulary words to create a presentation using Haiku Deck. Haiku Deck uses Creative Commons images to build presentations and even provides the citation information. This is a great time to talk about copyright issues and the importance of citing sources (aka: giving credit).
You can also use this lesson to talk about tagging. Haiku Deck matches keywords from the slide text to tags supplied by the Flickr photographer. I love using Haiku Deck with younger students because the application is simple to use and the final product looks good. When the younger kids use Tech4Learning Pixie and/or Microsoft PowerPoint, their presentations don't usually look attractive - things don't usually line up, they have too much freedom to change fonts, font size, and font colors, and they tend to add a lot of clip art. I am especially excited that Haiku Deck recognizes Spanish words. This would be an excellent tool to use for younger kids to demonstrate their understanding of Spanish vocabulary. I've only played with this, but have not done it with a class yet. |
