Spanish I and II - Culture

9/26/2014

Senora Laub is a fabulous Spanish teacher who teaches Spanish I and II for the upper school.  As part of her curriculum she teaches the students the culture of Spanish speaking countries.  I helped her put together some information on a few countries. She let's the students explore the information independently, thus allowing them to see what piques their interest.

For each country we tried to include some basic facts, cultural etiquette, a day in the life of a kid who lives there, food, dance, music, art, sports, festivals, famous sites, etc.  I find information on the internet including websites, articles, timelines, videos, panoramic photos, virtual tours, etc.  So far I have 3 that are completed and I'm working on Puerto Rico.  Please let me know if there's other countries you are interested in and I'll put it on my list.  Click below to visit each site:

Just a quick note on the process of pulling this information together.  Curating information like this takes a lot of time, but I really enjoy doing it.  I find it exhilarating to see how much information is out there that can bring these cultures to life for our students. Every year there is more and better materials out there.  One thing that is disheartening is the amount of work it takes to maintain these pages.  It's surprising how often a YouTube video is taken down or a link has been moved (or removed).  So please do let me know if something is amiss.  That will help a lot.  Thanks!
